There are a number of different finishes used to achieve the beautiful look and feel of
leather furniture.
For the purpose of cleaning, there are two main types of finish, one group is
highly absorbent, and the other is treated to resist absorbing soils and stains.
You need to know what finish you have before you attempt to clean it
yourself.
MAINTENANCE
CLEANING
For the day to day maintenance of leather
furniture, we recommend vacuuming with a soft brush attachment. Wiping gently with a soft
moistened cloth can also help remove dust build up.
Clean up spills immediately with a damp cloth.
FOR
PIGMENTED LEATHER
The leather surface undergoes various
treatments and a protective urethane coating is applied. This is by far the most popular
and easy to care for. Usually has a soft sheen and is smooth to touch.
Clean with approved Leather "soft" cleaner and apply a separate
protection creme.
(avoid two in one cleaners as the soil tends to build up in the
finish)
FOR ANILINE OR NUBUCK
LEATHERS
The leather is dyed and presented in a more
natural form. Often has a dull suede like appearance and a dry feel. It is
usually very absorbent.
Clean with "Nubuck" cleaning cloth.
(These are available from selected furniture retailers)
